Position Description
The School & Community Programs Manager leads educational initiatives at Morris-Jumel Mansion, including school, family, and community programs. This public-facing role works closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement creative programming that advances MJM’s mission, increases school and community participation, raises the organization’s visibility, and celebrates the museum’s collection and historical significance.
The Manager oversees the full execution of programming for school and community audiences. Responsibilities include targeted outreach to local schools, after-school programs, and community organizations; collaboration with peer historic house institutions; coordination of school tours and family days; and supervision of part-time educators and program volunteers. Because this role engages directly with diverse audiences, Spanish-language fluency is extremely important.
School and community programming at MJM is designed to bring history to life, reach diverse audiences, and support the organization’s mission. The School & Community Programs Manager reports to the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- 2+ years experience in museum education
- Bilingual Spanish-English
- Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, education, history, arts or related field
Duties & Responsibilities: The School & Community Programs Manager will:
- Manage programming relating to history, architecture, and decorative arts through academic, school, family, and community offerings.
- Oversee program logistics, including calendars, educator scheduling, program setup, vendor and contractor coordination, supply ordering, demographic tracking, and other administrative tasks related to programming.
- Oversee community programs and partnership events.

- Conduct outreach and develop new Spanish-language programming.
- Be a critical part of the Mansion’s opening team by working closely with staff and volunteers to uphold and exceed established safety protocols.
- Coordinate the development and dissemination of program marketing materials, such as e-blasts, social media, press releases, event listings, etc.
- Recruit, train, and supervise educators and volunteers who deliver programming.
- In partnership with the Executive Director, uphold MJM’s commitment to welcoming and inclusive content and experiences, while staying current with best practices in museum education.
- Work with the museum staff to ensure school and community programming coordinates with the organization’s mission and vision and complements curatorial, educational, and community engagement initiatives.
- Engage museum patrons, significant stakeholders, the immediate neighborhood, and the broader community to create a welcoming, inviting, and relevant educational environment.
- Work with Visitor Services staff to greet visitors and provide interpretation as needed.
- Ensure proper opening and closing procedures for the Mansion and park.
- Assist with special events, fundraising, visitor services, exhibition development, and other projects assigned.
Rate, Hours, and Schedule:
The School & Community Programs Manager is a full-time non-exempt position, working Sunday – Thursday with occasional flexible hours as directed by the museum’s schedule. The salary is $56,000 for 40 hours per week, 9:00am-5:00pm. This position is eligible for healthcare, retirement, and PTO benefits, as outlined in the Morris-Jumel Mansion Employee Handbook.
