Getting Here

The Morris-Jumel Mansion is located in Upper Manhattan at 65 Jumel Terrace, a short block which extends from West 160th & West 162nd Streets. It is one block east of St. Nicholas Avenue and one block west of Edgecombe Avenue. Please note that West 161st Street does not extend this far east, but Sylvan Terrace can be entered via a stairway on St. Nicholas Avenue that leads to the entrance.

Subway
  • The closest subway stop is the 163rd Street C train stop. Exit at the south east staircase to St. Nicholas Avenue. Walk east one block to reach the Mansion.
  • The Museum is also a 10 minute walk from the 1 train to 157th Street, or the A train at 168th Street.
Bus
  • M2 to 160th and Edgecombe Avenue (uphill walk one block west to Jumel Terrace. Museum Entrance is 1/2 block north on Jumel Terrace).
  • M4 and M5 to 161st and Broadway (walk one block south to West 160th Street and two short blocks to Jumel Terrace. Museum entrance is 1/2 block north on Jumel Terrace).
  • M3 or the M101 (from Harlem-125th Metro North) to 161st and Amsterdam Ave. (walk one block south to West 160th Street and two short blocks to Jumel Terrace. Museum entrance is 1/2 block north on Jumel Terrace).
Driving
  • From the east side: Take the FDR Drive to 135th Street. Travel west on 135th to St. Nicholas Ave. and turn right. Proceed to 160th Street and turn right. Turn left on Jumel Terrace.
  • From the north and the west side: Henry Hudson to 158th Street. Take 158th Street east and turn left on St. Nicholas Avenue. Turn right onto 160th Street and proceed ½ block to Jumel Terrace on left.
  • Parking: Street parking is available on 160th and 162th Streets, on Jumel Terrace (cobblestone street) in front of the Museum, and behind the Museum on Edgecombe Avenue. There is also a parking garage on 161st street between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave.

Accessibility

We welcome all visitors to enjoy the Museum and Park. Currently, Roger Morris Park is physically accessible. It is anticipated that the Morris-Jumel Mansion will become accessible in 2025, with a capital project for barrier-free interior access to the first floor. Visitors with limited mobility sometimes find it easier to enter the Mansion from our side door, which has fewer steps (two sets of three), but no handrail. Upon request, the museum  offers basic accommodations for those requiring accommodation and neurodiverse learners. For more information, visit our accessibility page.

 

FAQs

Can I park my car at the Museum?

The Museum does not have a parking lot. Street parking is available on 160th and 162th Streets, on Jumel Terrace (cobblestone street) in front of the Museum, and behind the Museum on Edgecombe Avenue. However, please note that street parking can be limited. There is also a parking garage on 161st street between Broadway and Amsterdam Ave.

Does the Museum offer guided tours? 

Morris-Jumel Mansion has one guided tour option called Mansion & Grounds. Visitors enjoy a 30-minute guided exterior tour with a docent in the Park surrounding the house, followed by a self-guided interior tour of the Museum. 

 

Mansions & Grounds tours cost $16 per person over the age of 12 and only take place at 11am on Friday – Sunday. Advanced reservations are required, though some walk-ups might be accommodated according to availability. Click here to book your Mansion & Grounds tour tickets.

Do I have to book admissions tickets in advance?
  • Advanced ticket purchases for self-guided tours are optional. Visitors may purchase tickets for self-guided tours upon arrival ($10 per person over the age of 12) or in advance online.
  • Advanced reservations are required for Mansion & Grounds guided exterior tours, though some walk-ups might be accommodated according to availability ($16 per person over the age of 12). Click here to book your Mansion & Grounds tour tickets. 
Can I book a group tour?

Morris-Jumel Mansion offers group tours for college groups and any adult groups. Minimum group tour size is 6 people; maximum group tour size is 50 people. Group tours cost $9 per person for college groups and $12.50 per person for adult groups.

 

Group tours are one-hour long and involve a 30-minute guided exterior tour with a docent in the Park surrounding the house, followed by a 30-minute self-guided interior tour of the Museum. 

 

Group tours must be requested at least two weeks in advance and will be accommodated based on availability. Your group tour is not confirmed until the initial deposit is paid, which will be invoiced once a date and time has been mutually agreed upon with the Museum. Are there elevators at the Museum? 

The Museum is not wheelchair accessible and does not have elevators, lifts, escalators, or ramps between its three floors. Visitors must use stairs to reach the ground floor. An accessibility ramp leading to the ground floor is a key part of the upcoming Exterior Restoration and Accessibility Project. Click here for more information about accessibility at the Museum.

Are animals allowed at the Museum? 

Guide dogs and other trained service animals are welcome at the Museum. Pets and emotional support animals are not permitted.

Do you have a restaurant or cafe in the Museum?

The Museum does not have an on-site cafe or restaurant. However, there are cafes and restaurants within walking distance of the Museum. NOTE: Food and drinks brought into the Museum cannot be consumed in the period rooms.

Can I take photographs? 

The Morris-Jumel Mansion allows private, non-commercial photography and video in the Museum and Park. We ask that visitors do not use flash photography in the Museum. The Museum reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to withhold and/or withdraw permission to photograph on its premises or to reproduce photographs of objects in its collections.

 

Be mindful of other visitors at the Museum and Park. Please refrain from having lighting setups, costume changes, or drones on the premises without permission.

Visitors may be photographed, videotaped, or recorded while at the Museum. 

 

By entering the Morris-Jumel Mansion or the Park for a tour, program, or event, you are entering an area where photography, audio and video recording may occur.

 

Your entry and presence on the premises constitutes your consent to be photographed, filmed, and/or otherwise recorded and to the release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction of any and all recorded media of your appearance, voice, and name for any purpose whatsoever in perpetuity in connection with the Morris-Jumel Mansion and its initiatives, including, by way of example only, use on websites, in social media, news and advertising.

 

By entering the premises, you waive and release any claims you may have related to the use of recorded media of you, including, without limitation, any right to inspect or approve the photo, video or audio recording of you, any claims for invasion of privacy, violation of the right of publicity, defamation, and copyright infringement or for any fees for use of such record media. You understand that all photography, filming (including live-streaming) and/or recording will be done in reliance on this consent.

Can I visit the Park? 

The Museum is located in Roger Morris Park, an NYC park that is free and open to the public daily from 10am-5pm. Roger Morris Park is physically accessible. 

 

Please note that all NYC park rules apply in Roger Morris Park. Concerns regarding Roger Morris Park should be directed to the City of New York.
