Thank you to everyone who supported the 2024 George Washington Dinner!
The George Washington Dinner on July 14 was a resounding success, with a sold-out crowd of supporters, sponsors, and special guests enjoying a fun and elegant evening that raised significant funds for our community programs.
Many notable guests included Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine; New York State Senator Robert Jackson; NYC Council Member Gale Brewer; Meredith Horsford, Executive Director of the Historic House Trust; and Luis Miranda, philanthropist, author, and political strategist.
Gratitude to Honorary Chairs Katherine Diaz, Ildiko Juhasz, and Dr. Keith Taylor, and to all of the generous sponsors, including Signature Sponsor Harlem Community Development Corporation and its president, Curtis Archer (complete Sponsor list is below). Deep appreciation to the many donors to our very successful Silent Auction, and congratulations to the successful bidders on the enticing assortment of items and experiences, including Luis Miranda, who secured the extraordinary and much coveted carved box by artist Joyce Francis.
The annual George Washington Dinner commemorates the July 1790 dinner hosted at the Mansion by President Washington and his wife Martha for his Cabinet and their wives, including John and Abigail Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander and Eliza Hamilton, and others.
The 2024 dinner fell on Bastille Day, the French National Day. In recognition of the historic connection between the U.S. and France, we celebrated the values of liberty, equality, brotherhood, (liberté, égalité, fraternité) that still resonate today.
The evening’s program included:
• An update on the critical Mansion Restoration and Accessibility Project.
• Remarks that were both meaningful and humorous by New York Times bestselling author A.J. Jacobs, whose most recent book The Year of Living Constitutionally was featured on CBS Sunday Morning in a segment taped in part at Morris-Jumel Mansion.
• Performance on the Mansion patio by The New York Baroque Dance Company.
• Silent auction including artwork, designer items, vacation homes, books, fragrances, and more.
